Charlotte's Web

Charlotte's Web never fails to make me cry. How can you not love E. B. White's writing? He finishes his book with these paragraphs:

Mr. Zuckerman took fine care of Wilbur all the rest of his days, and the pig was often visited by friends and admirers, for nobody ever forgot the year of his triumph and the miracle of the web. Life in the barn was very good—night and day, winter and summer, spring and fall, dull days and bright days. It was the best place to be, thought Wilbur, this warm delicious cellar, with the garrulous geese, the changing seasons, the heat of the sun, the passage of swallows, the nearness of rats, the sameness of sheep, the love of spiders, the smell of manure, and the glory of everything.

Wilbur never forgot Charlotte. Although he loved her children and grandchildren dearly, none of the new spiders ever quite took her place in his heart. She was in a class by herself. It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer. Charlotte was both.

I'm verklempt. I may have to rename my blog.

That second to the last line always gets me as that is what I hope to be - a true friend and a good writer.

I am such a sap for children's lit. Gets me verklempt too. Thanks for sharing that passage.

Okay, so I am showing my ignorance. I actually went to the Webster's Dictionary to find the word "verklempt" b/c I had no idea what it means! So, can you please help me out here. The word "verklempt" IS NOT IN THE DICTIONARY! Hmmm, are you making up words now? Even so, I will continue reading your introcinating BLOG. Oh, by the way, introcinating is introspective + facinating. Just thought I'd let you know!!

Hillbilly friend, verklempt is to be "overwhelmed with emotion." It's a Yiddish word.

I make up a lot of things, sometimes words, but someone else came up with that one.

Btw, I like "intocrinating" - my definition of your word would be: "Intoxicating indoctrination." ; )
